This was the first resort holiday that I have ever had, that is, an apartment in a busy foreign resort and I think that considering that I live in the middle of the countryside back at home I coped really well with all of the noise of the mopeds and the singing and clapping up until 4.30 in the morning!
The holiday had been organised by my oldest son James and his girlfriend Lauren who together had sorted the appartment and the flights. The appartment was for 4 people so I said that David and I would love to join them as we had seen a programme about the island on TV and it was on my list of places that I wanted to visit
We flew over to Ibiza landing in the middle of the night and looked for a taxi to take us to Evissa. A man approached us and led us to a smallish dirty car with no eveidence of it being a taxi. We loaded ourselves and our baggage in as it was late, we wanted to get to the hotel soon and there were 4 of us and only one of him so we felt quite safe. I think that it was a local who was trying to make some money for his family so we didn't mind helping him and as he took us straight to the hotel he helped us too.
The following morning we left our bags at the hotel and went for a wander round the port, at 9 oclock in the morning it was already 33 degrees!
I had found a couple of "raw food" cafes on the internet before we had flown out that were aparently close to the port but we couldnt find them so I don't know if we looked in the wrong place or if they no longer existed. What this meant to us was that we had no need to leave Formentara once we had got there as there was nothing on Ibiza that had any appeal for us.
The Ferry took us across to the island and took about an hour to get there passing little islands on the way, the sun beating down and the sea sparkling.
A taxi took us the short distance to Es Pujols where our "owners abroad" appartment was situated in the high street on the 4th floor with a view of the sea from the balcony
The appartment was great it had two twin bedrooms, a shower room and a living room with a sofa bed, dinning room table and chairs and a small kitchen
There were hundreds of mopeds all over the place as this seemed to be the primary way of getting around the island, and so we went to find out how much it would cost to hire one only to realise that neither of us had brought our driving lisences with us, which meant that the only vehicles that we could hire were push bikes and I am really glad that was the case because it is a fabulous island to cycle around as they have cycle ways next to all of the main roads and dedicated cycle paths, though those are incredibly pot holey and dusty.
So having got instantly bored with lying around on the beach we hired two bikes for 5 euros each per day which we thought was great value as we had them from opening time till 8pm. The first place that we went was to the capital San Francisco which for a capitol was tiny. When we stopped to try and work out where anywhere was in relation the here we were a large military helicopter landed right by us and a bloke with a rucksac ran over to it and got on board and it took off with him in it, bizzare!
San Francisco it like a hippy mecca with stalls lining the pedestrian walk ways strewn with colourful wares. By the time that we left the whole area was busting with stalls but I didn't take any more photos
because when we got back to our bikes i realised that the key to the lock that had been hanging around
my wrist was no longer there!
Panic striken at the thought of what that would mean I stayed with the bikes as David retraced our steps and found where I had dropped it, phew!
we quickly found a cycle path out of the capitol and went off in search of a cave that was marked on the map. I have got to addd some photos to face book now so I will show you photos of the caves and the rest of the holiday when I return.
